Traditionally every culture has welcomed a new baby with some
measure of private or public ritual and ceremony.
For many it was also a welcome into the religious family, with parents
and godparents promising to bring the child up in the ways of that community,
with the values of their faith.
It is a wonderful thing to create an occasion to welcome a new person
into a family and community of friends, with or without a religious element.
Just because you are not churchgoers doesn't mean that a new baby need
go without appropriate recognition and commitment to its upbringing.
Formal religious ceremonies can be complemented, or replaced by your
own meaningful and special observance.
It will be a special memory for you and your family and friends when
you pledge to strive to be the sort of parent you wish to become.
Mentors (guardians or godparents) can vow to watch over the child and
support your parenting goals. Older siblings and grandparents can also
make promises about their role in caring and guiding the new family member,
making it a special day for them too.
A parent herself, your True Words Divined Life Celebrant, Rilke
Muir, is well equipped to guide you through the choices that can be made.
Together we will create a special ceremony for your own family and friends.
